Sandra Block
Dr. Sandra Block is Professor Emeritus, Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) and ICO-President-Elect, World Council of Optometry. She completed her OD (ICO-1981), Pediatric Residency (1982), Master of Education, National Louis University and Master of Public Health, University of Illinois. She is a Diplomate in the Public Health and Environmental Vision Section of the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. She is past chair of the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health. Dr. Block retired from ICO with her last position as the Medical Director of their school-based vision clinic serving low-income children. She had served as a Global Clinical Advisor for Special Olympics Opening Eyes from 1995-2022. Her interests lie in primary eyecare for children, vulnerable populations, and persons with disabilities, as well as public health issues. Block has authored numerous publications and conducted presentations worldwide.
